Individual Services

While our name highlights our commitment to the health and well-being of couples and families, individuals seeking counseling make up the majority of our clientele. At various times in life, we all find ourselves struggling to navigate through, or simply make sense of, a challenging situation. CMFC provides a safe place for individuals to discuss their issue(s) with a professional counselor in a warm and confidential environment. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service with a compassionate heart and an ethic of justice for all individuals. This commitment holds true with any issue an individual needs to discuss, no matter how challenging it may be.

Couples/Marital Services

Creating a loving, committed relationship with another person is truly one of joys of realizing our human potential. This process can also be one of the more challenging endeavors two people can undertake. Regardless of where you are on the continuum of satisfaction with regard to your current marriage or relationship, CMFC can help you heal and/or strengthen that bond with another person.

Our counselors take great pride in understanding the complexities and challenges of building a healthy partnership. A healthy marriage focused on growth is the backbone of a strong family. Often times many couples procrastinate with regard to seeking counseling. The earlier a couple recognizes the possible road blocks to a healthy union, the greater the likelihood of developing appropriate ways of addressing those issues. Our counselors work to identify the strengths and sustaining aspects or your partnership in an effort to empower you to deal more effectively with the negative aspects of your relationship. The overall goal is to help couples realize their potential of creating an enduring partnership built on love, trust and commitment.

Family Services

As our name demonstrates, The Center for Marriage and Family Counseling is committed to serving our clients in the context of their relationships with the important people in their lives. We encourage clients to bring in their closest relatives when they may be playing a part in the difficulties, or may be helpful in finding solutions.

Family Services include supervised visitation, which is a way for parents and children to preserve their relationship when there are problems which prevent their being with each other under more "natural" circumstances. Sometimes, when parents are going through a difficult divorce, there are conflicting stories about one or both parent's ability to properly interact with or care for their child or children. Sometimes it is necessary for a judge to intervene, or parents may negotiate a custody/visitation arrangement with the help of attorneys or mediation. Also, sometimes a parent has personal problems or circumstances that prevent the possibility of having her/his children visit in their own home.

The CMFC Supervised Visitation Program is designed to enable parents who do not have physical custody of their children to have a safe and comfortable place to see each other when other places are unavailable or not appropriate.

We have a room that is designated for supervised visitation, furnished with comfortable couch and chairs and equipped with a TV, VCR, and numerous games and toys. We also have a well‑groomed yard with a picnic table and play set for outdoor visitations during nice weather. A kitchen is also available for preparation of meals or refreshments.

Employer Services

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a benefit provided by an employer to address personal, family, job‑related, and substance abuse problems that affect job performance. This benefit is provided in addition to health insurance and other benefits.

Employees are a company's most valuable resource. Your company cares about you and your family ‑ not only your job performance. It is true that a healthy and problem‑free employee is a more productive employee.

Everyone experiences personal, family, emotional or other types of difficulties at some point in their lifetime. In most cases we are able to resolve these difficulties on our own. However, when our problems become unmanageable, we need to turn to others for help. The EAP provides free, confidential counseling to the employee and family members.

An EAP also provides managers and supervisors training workshops in identifying and referring employees who are experiencing problems.

An EAP provides employees and family members with counseling services for:

While some persons may be referred to the EAP because of job‑related problems, most simply call their EAP on their own. Complete confidentiality is assured to workers who call the EAP on their own. EAP services are free to the employee and their eligible family and household members. Services are provided in a comfortable, and confidential atmosphere.

Group Services

We also provide a range of group interventions for certain types of problems that are experienced by many people, for education and support is best provided in a group setting. We are known throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia for our expertise with domestic violence/anger control groups.
